If you're truly looking to make creams, lotions and other cosmetics more naturally, we invite you to try your hands with this first recipe. (Other recipes will soon follow) The ingredient list is easily pronounceable, and interpretable by those other than chemists, doctors and certified geniuses.

Combine shea butter, jojoba oil and sorbitan stearate into the jar and add the isoteryol lactylate mix and vitamin E acetate oil.

Heat the water to boiling, and pour over the above ingredients. Cover jar with lid, and wrap in a towel (It's hot) and shake for at least 1 minute.

Shake occasionally until the mixtures temperature reaches 80 degrees F, then add the Germaben II,  lemon and fragrance, if desired and  shake well. Pour mixture into containers. This product will thicken overnight to yield an easily spreadable cream.

Isoteryol Lactylate Mixture

1/2 cup isoteryol lactylate

1/8 tsp vitamin E acetate oil

5 Tbl sweet almond (or other) oil

Put sweet almond oil, or any other oil you may like into a heat resistant jar, and add vitamin E acetate oil and isoteroyl lactylate.

Place in a small pot with enough water to resemble a double boiler. Heat mixture until uniform, around 140 degrees F. Transfer to jar for storage. You will now have this ingredient ready for future use

The Ingredients

Isoteroyl lactylate - lactic acid is a naturally occurring constituent of our skin. An alpha-hydroxy acid that is an excellent humectant (attracts moisture), has been extensively tested with no reports of adverse effects, and works as a co-emulsifier and stabilizer of oil-in-water emulsions.

Sorbitan monostearate - a food-grade emulsifier made from sugar.

Germaben II -  propylene glycol (and) diazolidinyl urea (and) methylparaben (and)propylparaben. A water soluble, heat sensitive preservative. Usage rate is .03 to1%. It is important to allow your product to cool prior to adding.

Shea Butter - Moisturizing to the skin and a natural thickener for lotions and creams.

Vitamin E, acetate - anti-oxidant, helps protect against uv radiation, natural moisturizer.

Lemon juice - adjusts pH of the product.
